EPC Ratings
Pickleball ratings are a system for categorizing players by skill level and proficiency. Ratings range from 2.0 (beginner) to 7.0 (professional). These ratings serve several purposes within the pickleball community:
Skill Assessment: Ratings provide an objective measure of a player’s skill level, helping players and organizers better understand their abilities on the court.
Matchmaking: In tournaments and organized play, players with similar ratings are often matched to ensure fair, competitive games. This enhances the overall experience for all participants.
Player Improvement: Ratings offer players a clear benchmark for improvement. As players progress in skill, their ratings can be adjusted to reflect their evolving abilities.
Event Eligibility: Certain tournaments and events may have entry requirements based on player ratings. This ensures that participants are evenly matched, contributing to a more competitive and enjoyable atmosphere.
Community Standardization: Ratings contribute to a standardized language within the pickleball community. Players and organizers across different regions can use ratings as a common reference point when discussing skill levels.
Accepted Rating Systems
At the Edmonton Pickleball Center, we use a couple of different ways to give you an official Club rating. We recognize two primary verification methods to ensure accuracy across all EPC programs.
In-house Professional Evaluation
One of our instructors will watch you play during one of our Rating Clinics. We offer rating clinics for every level!
How to get started:
- Register for a sanctioned tournament
- Request an EPC pro-evaluation
- Update your EPC player profile
Ratings from outside entities are NOT accepted. We accept ratings given only by EPC coaches.
Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR)
The most accurate global rating system based on match results against other rated players.
How to get started:
- Create a free account at mydupr.com
- Join the EPC Club on DUPR
- Record scores from EPC rated plays
We will accept your DUPR rating and will assign you a club rating by rounding down your DUPR score pending a reliability score of 60 or higher.

Common Questions
Can I self-rate to join a 3.5 program?
No. To maintain game quality, any program listed as 3.0 or higher requires a verified rating from DUPR, Pickleball Alberta, or Pickleball Brackets.
What if my DUPR is 3.45? Am I a 3.0 or 3.5?
EPC rounds down to ensure you are playing at the top of your bracket rather than the bottom. A 3.45 would play in the 3.0 intermediate bracket until you reach a 3.50.
How do I update my rating after a tournament?
Simply send a screenshot of your updated Pickleball Alberta or PB Brackets profile to our staff, and we will update your EPC account within 48 hours.
Do you offer official skill evaluations?
Yes! Our staff pros offer 60-minute evaluation sessions where they assess your technical skills and match play to issue a club-verified rating.
